Working with professional and accredited staff, CHC handles funding and delivers continued support to programs that provide daily nutrition, educational goals, psychological development, and spiritual guidance for abused street children.

Distance Learning Opportunity Program

Maribojoc, Bohol, Philippines

Supporting the educational needs from K-12 students and college scholarship recipients located in remote and economically-underserved communities needing offline teaching support and internet connectivity where it is available. This program makes it possible for the students to receive daily classroom instruction relayed both offline through loading classroom work into a flash drive, and through online connection where signal is accessible. These distance learning methods are direly needed due to stay-at-home and social distancing precautionary measures from the spread of COVID-19.

Recovery and Reconstruction Support

Del Carmen, Siargao, Philippines

Typhoon Odette hit the Philippines in December 2021, making landfall in Siargao. Children’s Hope Charities provided funding for relief support to Siargao, providing enough to help in the rebuilding of almost 5000 houses affected by the typhoon.

Purchase, Collection, and Distribution of PPEs

Manila, Philippines
Mississippi and New York, USA

Essential protective equipment are donated to frontliners in the medical field whose health centers and hospitals do not have ample supply to meet the demand of the continuous rise of COVID-19 cases.

Opening of cHILDREN’S HOPE RESOURCE CENTER, Titay, Zamboanga Sibugay

October 2024 – At Children’s Hope – we open doors where children can thrive! On October 5, 2024, we did just that, we opened the newest door, presenting the Children’s Hope Resource Center in Titay, Zamboanga Sibugay, in close partnership with the Capuchin Tertiary Sisters of the Holy Family! Kudos to former Ambassador Tess Barsana who oversaw the renovation of the place that now house the Resource Center and all the purchases we needed, to outfit the Center with desktop computers, a 65” Smart TV, a multi-function printer, metal shelves for books, sets of tables and chairs, a teacher’s desk, a laptop, books, computer desks, rubber mats, proper signages, and more. Kudos as well to Sister Bridgett Asentista who started the conversation about the children in Titay who can benefit greatly on the availability of learning resources that can enhance their education and growth.

establishing the Training Program for Carers of Special Needs Individuals

May 2024 – Children’s Hope Charities and the OneLife Foundation established the Training Program for Carers of Special Needs Individuals, with CHC providing funds to train carers of special needs individuals.

The carer trainees will receive both theoretical lessons and hands-on experience, helping them understand the behaviors and needs of the special needs individuals they will care for. The program starts with classroom observations and to be followed by lectures on behavior management and communication. The carer trainees will also work with special needs individuals in various practical stations like housekeeping, gardening, arts and crafts, cooking, and more. This will allow them to put into practice the skills they learn, to help special needs individuals develop independence and important life skills.

a new P.A. system and outreach/feeding program for the children’s hope learning center for hearing impaired

January 2024 – Children’s Hope Charities provided the Joseph Gualandi School for Hearing Impaired with a new P.A. system, as well as, providing meals for the students of the school.

2023

Children’s Hope Learning Center
American Sign Language (ASL) Project

April 2023 – The Gualandi School for Hearing Impaired, Inc., with the aid of Children’s Hope Charities, began courses for American Sign Language (ASL) at the Children’s Hope Learning Center in Naga City. These courses will range from Basic to Advanced, in the hopes of creating a pool of sign language interpreters to cater to the needs of the deaf and hard of hearing in the Bicol Region.

“… the 26 students are actively participating in the ASL classes.
7 teachers and 2 Sisters are now at Advance Level 2.
They will take the whole ASL course and they will be evaluated once the whole course is completed and they can then be employed.
They can interpret in courts, hospitals, in the church, in conferences or seminars, and on television.
This is the goal of this project, because Bicol lacks Sign Language interpreters.
The deaf children and their parents are enrolled to learn ASL, for them to be able to communicate and to be able to work someday, and for the parents to be able to communicate with their children.”

Children’s Hope Learning Center for Hearing Impaired Implementation

January 2023 – The Children’s Hope Charities team traveled to Naga City in January to visit for the 2nd time, our beneficiary, Joseph Gualandi School for Hearing Impaired. It was so heartwarming to see and hear the children talking, singing and performing dance numbers and to realize CHC has played a small role in their lives. We were so touched to hear them sing the Our Father. The children and nuns were very appreciative to see us.

In 2021, year two of Children’s Hope Charities, we built and equipped a learning center for the hearing impaired children.

A dream come true, hopefully just the first of many learning centers for the children, the first of many doors to open where children can learn, get education, protection and dignity, for children from all walks of life.

Our first one, presenting CHILDREN’S HOPE LEARNING CENTER FOR HEARING IMPAIRED, located in Naga City, in the province of Camarines Sur, Philippines, and only one such facility in the Bicol Region, fully furnished with books, computers, tables/desks, printers, audio-visual equipment, and best of all, first batch of BTE hearing aids for hearing-impaired children.

This year, we visited with the children and nuns and brought school supplies and other necessities.

We also visited the Good Shepherd Home whose ministry is on women and children! The Good Shepherd in Naga is home to abused girls (particularly cases of sexual abuse, incest, etc.), in the area of Southern Tagalog and Bicol. We met up with my childhood friend and classmate, Weena Salvador Meily who was assigned to work in the advocacy committee of the congregation.

Children’s Hope Charities Donates Printing Materials

Occidental Mindoro State College

22 January 2021 – Occidental Mindoro State College (OMSC) – Lubang Campus received donations from Children’s Hope Charities (CHC) chaired by Ms. Celia P. Donahue together with Ms. Teresita Barsana the CHC Country Programs Lead for projects in the Philippines.

Lubang faculty and staff headed by Dr. Miguel C. Elausa along with the Supreme Student Government (SSG) led by their governor, Ms. Abegail B. Libuit received 100 reams of bond papers, 2 brand new multi-function Canon printers, and 2 sets of inks. The charity indeed helps the students in the campus as their tagline states,

“We pursue programs to educate, protect and dignify children from all walks of life.”

These printing materials were requested in response to the now practiced flexible learning in the campus. Students can barely join online classes due to poor internet connection and unavailability of necessary gadgets for students’ personal use; hence requiring additional printed learning paraphernalia which will be using a bunch of materials that were now granted by the CHC.

Supplies were turned over to the Supreme Student Government (SSG) to start their Income Generating Program (IGP) which is printing and photocopying services for their fellow students. These services will cost them significantly lower prices than those of computer shops in the island.

Instead of spending from Php 3.00- Php 5.00 for photocopy and Php 5.00-Php 20.00 for printing, students will be able to print their paper works costing only Php 2.00-Php 5.00. This pricing was planned and perceived to be sustainable and help the students at the same time.

Virtual Forum Series

Arlington, Virginia, USA

CHC will be hosting a series of virtual engagements beginning in 2021 involving communities of color to share first-hand experiences on protecting the dignity and well-being of a child facing today’s challenges with racism, the COVID-19 pandemic, and equal educational opportunities. Schedule and online link information to be released in January 2021. Stay tuned.

2020

18 March 2020:

CHC volunteers braved the roads to deliver N95 masks to our frontliners in Batangas Medical Center.

Around the same time, CHC also arranged delivery of N95 masks to UP-Philippine General Hospital (c/o PGH Medical Foundation) and to Chinese General Hospital.

26 January 2020:

CHC hit ground zero. Our generous donors from Manila, Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC have made it possible for our great team of volunteers in the Philippines along with our CHC US and Philippine operations directors and Chairwoman Celia Donahue, to provide N95 masks, food, water, medicines, blankets, and most of all an outpour of love for the kids and their families displaced by the ash fall from Taal’s volcano eruption.

This maiden activity for Children’s Hope took our team to twelve (12) evacuation centers and shared blessings with over 25,000 people needing assistance.
